I was originally unable to get into Disk Utilities, unable to boot from USB or HD, constant Video issues, horizontal lines on the screen, pink / Blue screen etc. Mac OS X comes with an easy-to-use application, called Disk Utility, that allows users to verify and repair hard disks using a graphical user interface and it is recommended for most Mac users that are not comfortable using the terminal.However, this can also be performed using the command-line. These steps helped me fix my Macbook issue and I have successfully rebooted three times now and so far so good. How to Repair a Disk on Mac OS X from Command Line. If you don't receive any errors then close Terminal restart your machine and see if you can now boot up properly. If it finds errors then run this command. ![]() It will also ensure that there are no corrupt files. ![]() When you see the login screen, you can release the Shift key. 10 seconds later, you need to press the Power button and immediately press & hold the Shift key. If you are using an Intel-based Mac: Shut down your Mac. ![]() This will ensure your drive volume is functioning properly and the system files are in the correct locations. Booting your Mac into Safe Mode can check issues on your Mac’s startup drive and automatically repair any issue it discovers. Step #2: Open up Terminal located in LaunchPad's (Other) section. Once you log in to your computer in safe mode - then go to step 2. Rarely you may need to boot a Mac into Recovery Mode. Step #1: Hold down "SHIFT" - Press the power button and keep holding the shift key down. Sometimes your Mac may face some unknown issues, you'll have to boot Mac in recovery mode to fix these issues. I also wanted to add this step for anyone having trouble booting their Macbook Pro, once they can boot successfully into Safe Mode.
